CINEMA AGAINST THE TIDE

CINE A CONTRACORRIENTE

Data:

Oct. 2010 – Oct. 2014.

Brief Description

CINE A CONTRACORRIENTE: LATIN AMERICA AND SPAIN is a journey through one of those “underground currents”. For nearly eight decades, dozens of filmmakers and audiovisual artists have ventured into the abyss of cinema without rules to experiment with a camera, to create new ways of seeing and new ways of recounting.

This new program offers pieces by numerous Latin American filmmakers as well as works by a few of the Spaniards present in the first selection. Whereas the previous selection covered 80 years of experimental cinema, this one ranges through practically the entire history of cinema. Works by filmmakers from more recent years display a significant change in formats and genres. Video-creation has emerged with impetus to become one of the options for the future in audiovisual arts. And the documentary is consolidating its increasingly important role in the world of cinema.

Itinerancy of this exhibition program was over 15 countries.

The DVD publication, with 19 titles that the project curator, Antoni Pinent, has compiled, is the result of in-depth research and an exceptional team of Latin American experts on experimental cinema and video. CINE A CONTRACORRIENTE (CINEMA AGAINST THE GRAIN) is the title of this program, with its corresponding DVD compilation.
